Fall 2019 & Spring 2020

The Explore Computer Science Research (ExploreCSR) program is about students!  The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota has received grant funding for the 2nd year from Google to host the ExploreCSR program focused on "exposing students to undergraduate research opportunities, while guiding and mentoring them through the process."

Our program this year will consist of three workshops being held throughout the Spring 2020 semester.  Undergraduate students, especially women, are encouraged to participate.  As Google states,"These workshops, modeled on, and inspired by Carnegie Mellon University's, OurCS, will help undergraduate women to enhance their research skills, create a sense of community with peers and faculty, instill confidence to problem solve beyond the classroom, and inspire and motivate them toward careers in research."  Although we will be discussing women's issues during the workshops, these workshops are for all undergraduates regardless of gender.  We welcome students from the University of Minnesota along with students from local universities with limited research opportunities.

The following are the expected outcomes of the workshops:

  • Students will receive guidance from expert graduate students and faculty;
  • Students will get exposed to research methods with focus on real world hands on learning;
  • Students will develop teamwork and collaboration skills;
  • Students will become aware of graduate school opportunities and application steps;
  • Students will network with students with similar interests from other institutions.
